MONTOYA, ZENIDA (IDA) GARCIA- A Mass of Christian Burial for Zenida (Ida) Garcia Montoya will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Assumption Catholic Church, burial following at South Park Cemetery with Fr. Ivan Torres officiating.
Ida was born to Abran Garcia and Sarah Padilla, June 25,1935 in Encinoso, Lincoln, NM. She attended school in Richardson and Encinoso. In 1947 the family later moved to Bogle Farms in Dexter, NM and in the 50’s, she and her sister moved to Roswell NM where she became a registered nurse and worked at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Ida later enrolled in Cosmetology College and was certified a hairstylist in 1953. In the 1967 she fulfilled her dream as owner and operator of “Klassy Kurl Beauty Salon” in Roswell NM. Ida was a sought out as a gifted hairdresser, her talent was outstanding and won various awards for her excellent skills. In her career, she viewed her clients as family and became close to them, many were faithful to her for over 50 years. She enjoyed furthering her skills in going to Hair shows in New York, Las Vegas, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and Albuquerque. When Ida wasn’t busy making the world beautiful, she enjoyed her many hobbies like cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, china painting, oil painting, and decorating. Ida’s great talent kept herself busy, in her later years she worked by tackling projects like sanding, stripping kitchen cabinets or painting her house. There was NOTHING that Ida could not do.
Ida loved spending time with her family, walking her dogs, playing Bingo, Reading, and on occasion she enjoyed heading to up to the hills with her sisters and nieces. Ida will always be known as a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and such a beautiful lady with a heart of Gold.
Survived by her loving dogs Snooki and Snuggles; children, Greg Montoya and Monica Ramirez and their kids of Roswell; Denise Espinoza and husband, Rick Espinoza of Roswell: grandchildren, Alishia Montoya and the little girl who had Ida’s heart, Talyssa Espinoza; nephew Frank Cordova; brother, Tony Garcia and wife, Eva Garcia of Roswell, NM; sisters: Mary Romero of Ruidoso, NM; Minnie Barela and husband, Godfrey Barela of Lovington, NM; and Dora Castillo of Lubbock, TX; numerous nieces and nephews. Robert Garcia was close to her heart, he helped his aunt, Ida with projects, she also loved spending time with her niece, Sandra Cervantez which held a special place in her heart along with her best friend, cousin and Co-Worker of 38 years, Virgie Romero.
Preceding Ida in death are her mother, Sarah Garcia and father, Abran Garcia; her first husband, Joe Montoya Garcia Jr.; second husband, the late Joe Steven Montoya; mother in law, Delia Lucero; two brothers, Roman and Julian Garcia; three sisters, Josephine Ruiz, Emma Torres and Barbara Otero; sis and brother in law Maria Natividad Garcia, Manuel Torres, Miguel Otero, Ralph Romero and Augustine Castillio.
Pallbearers will be, Greg Montoya, Rick Espinoza, Robert Garcia, Martin Garcia, Godfrey Barela, and Michael Otero. Honorary Pallbearers are Denise, Talyssa, Dora, Minnie, Mary, Tony and numerous nephews and nieces.
