On the morning of Monday, February 22, 2021 Mark Wendell Sterrett gained his heavenly reward at the age of 70.
Mark was born to Charles and Nanette Sterrett in 1950. He attended NMSU and received his degree in Agricultural Management.
In 1994 he married Joni Sterrett of the family home. Together they raised three children, Corrie, Clay, and Kathleen.
Mark was a loving father and husband. He quietly, but firmly corrected his children, doing his best to lead them in the way of the Lord. Marks love of ranching and farming was a heritage passed on from his grandfather and father. He loved farming in the East Grand Plains valley and trained his grandson, Isaiah to follow in his footsteps. Mark loved to laugh and enjoyed family gatherings. He knew this life on earth was a temporary assignment, therefore he served his fellow man in the community, at church, Community Bible Study and Walk to Emmaus. We look forward to seeing his face in heaven should we believe and receive the free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sterrett and his grandparents,
Wendell and Bessie Sterrett. He is survived by his wife Joni, his three children Corrie Rivera (Mario), Clay Sterrett, and Kathleen Garcia (Jason); his mother, Nanette Plivoris (Bob), sisters, Debbie Wood (Earl) and Kristi Labine, brother Scott Sterrett (Diana). Mark was blessed to have six grandchildren, Isaiah, Travis and Letishia Rivera, Caleb and AbbiGaiI Curtis and Zeta Garcia, two great grandchildren Eli and Rylee Chavez; several nieces, nephews and close friends.
A private service will be held the morning of March 6, 2021.
A celebration of life to honor Mark and his family will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 PM at 3834 East Grand Plains Road, Roswell, NM, family, friends, and neighbors are welcomed.
A Cowboy's Prayer
O Lord, I reckon I'm not much by myself;
I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do;
But, Lord, when trails are steep and passes high,
Help me ride it straight the whole way thru.
And in the falling dusk, when I get the final call,
I do not care how many flowers they send-
Above all else, the happiest trail would be,
For you to say to me, "Let's ride, My friend."
