Ezra David Ikenberry

September 17, 1930 ~ May 12, 2020 (age 89)


Ezra David Ikenberry, Jr., also known as "Ike" or "E.D." was called to his eternal resting place on May 12, 2020. He entered this world on September 17, 1930, in Springer, NM, born to Ezra David Ikenberry, Sr. and Mable Hixenbaugh Ikenberry. He is survived by his sons, David Ikenberry of Minneapolis, MN; Devin Ikenberry of Elk Grove, CA; daughter Tracy Ikenberry of Roswell and her two sons, Brandon and Jeremy.

He served in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of the 315th and 810th Air Police Squadron and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War.

Ike spent his younger years at the family farm in Miami, NM, until the family moved to Springer, where he remained for the majority of his life.

Ike was an only child but grew up in a large family, including his Uncle Merle Hixenbaugh whom he was raised with and considered a brother. He often told stories of growing up in Miami and spending time in Heck Canyon with his many cousins including Barbara "Bobbie", Patricia "Patsy", and Rowena "Rena", to name a few.

He attended Springer High School where he excelled in sports, playing football, basketball and track. He played in the North vs. South High School All Stars (1949) being a member of the North Football team. He graduated in 1949 and for a short time attended Highlands University and then transferred to McPherson College in McPherson, KS.

Ike was a mechanic and business owner. He spent much of his spare time working on, buying, selling and trading cars and motorcycles. He was also a gunsmith and had a fully equipped gun shop in his home where he would repair, customize and build guns for his friends and also reloaded ammo. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed competing in shooting events at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM.

In lieu of flowers, memoriums may be made in Ezra's name to the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

There is no memorial service planned at this time.
