Windle Douglas “Doug” Buckelew September 19, 1951 – November 12, 2025
Windle Douglas “Doug” Buckelew, age 74, of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away on November 12, 2025, in Roswell. Doug was born on September 19, 1951, in Roswell, NM, to Windle L. Buckelew and Dorothy L. (Morgan) Buckelew.
Doug dedicated 25 years of his life to education as a teacher for the Roswell Independent School District, where he made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. He proudly served in the New Mexico National Guard for a number of years, demonstrating the same sense of duty and commitment that defined every part of his life. Doug was known for his humor, warmth, and steadfast dedication to his family and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Buckelew of Roswell; his son, Cody Buckelew and wife Hannah of Roswell, along with their children, Canyon, Harper, and Cade; and his daughter, Breanna Buckelew of Roswell. Doug adored his grandchildren and would light up whenever they visited, which was a frequent and cherished occurrence.
Doug is also survived by his mother-in-law, Billie Ray of Roswell; his brother, Charles “Eddie” Buckelew and wife Cindy of Artesia, NM; his sister, Linda Buckelew of Roswell; and his sisters-in-law, Deanna Guynes of West Hills, California; Lisa Simmons and husband Gary of Jal, NM; and Mary Dixon of Roswell, NM.
Additional surviving family members include nieces Sandy Buckelew of Artesia, NM; Ricci Sappington and husband TJ of Dexter, NM; Miranda McPherson, Acacia Wagner, and Antheni Earnest of Roswell, NM; great-nieces Aubrey Sappington and Laura Sappington; great-nephew Craig Sappington and wife Hanah of Roswell, NM; and great-great-nieces Blakelee and Violet Sappington, and great-great-nephew Rick Sappington. Doug is also survived by nephews Eddie Buckelew and wife Emma of Artesia, NM; Nathan Guynes and partner Lesli; Adam Guynes and wife Lauren; Dillon Guynes and wife Antuela, all of California; and Hayden Simmons and wife Celestina of Jal, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Windle L. and Dorothy Buckelew; two infant sons, Brian Marshall and Johnathan Lee; and his brother-in-law, Richard “Rick” McPherson.
Doug was deeply loved and will be missed tremendously by his family, friends, former students, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethel Baptist Church of Roswell on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to come celebrate Doug’s Life.
