ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO

Willis Thomas Bunton, age 92, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026. He was born on January 14, 1934 in Electra, Texas; the son of Oscar Jewel Bunton (OJ) and Lela Mary (Whitcamp) Bunton. He served in the United States Air Force during the postwar years of WWII as a Crew Chief from 1951-1955. He was stationed in Germany, France, and Libya, North Africa. He retired from Holloman Air Research and Development Center in Alamogordo, New Mexico as an Aircraft Mechanic in 1970 at the age of 36, after working there for 15 years. He was married to his wife Felipa for 42 years.

He is Survived by his wife Felipa Bunton in Roswell, New Mexico; five children, Tom (Tammy) Bunton in Beeville, Texas; Tammy (Michael) Hinton in Webster, Florida; Charles Wesley (Celina) Bunton, Texas; Hugh (Cassandra) Bunton in Orange Grove, Texas; Lee (Marilyn) Bunton in Roswell, New Mexico; and 8 grandchildren, Brianna Bunton, Corey Bunton, Nadia Bunton, Emma Bunton, Elijah Hinton, Brannen Hinton, Levi Bunton and Lela Bunton. Also survived is his most loving and faithful companion Xena (labrador mix dog).

He is preceded in death by his father Oscar Jewel Bunton (OJ); his mother Lela Mary Bunton (Mommie); his sister Elsa Marion; his sister Matilda Victoria Bunton; his brother Calvin Bunton; his sister Barbara Bunton, and his grandson Logan Bunton.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Roswell, New Mexico. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 AM and Funeral Services will follow from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico (Veteran’s Section).

Pallbearers will be: Tom Bunton, Tammy Hinton, Charles Bunton, Hugh Bunton, Lee Bunton and Corey Bunton.
