Thomas Boor

December 11, 1942 — December 10, 2020

Roswell

On December 10, 2020, Thomas E. Boor, (better known to his family and friends as “Grumpy” or simply “Tom”), while surrounded by family, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a sudden illness in Roswell, NM.

Tom was born on December 11, 1942 in Gary, Indiana, the only son of Steve and Edna Boor. Tom spent most of his youth and career growing up and living in the Inland Empire of southern California. Tom served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1964 as a Morse Intercept Operator while stationed in Brindisi, Italy and Norton AFB in San Bernardino, CA. In 1978, Tom met the love of his life, Jeannie, and they were married on December 9, 1978. Tom adopted Jeannie’s children (Gina, Veronica, and Christopher) as his own. In October 1991, Tom retired from General Telephone Electronics and they moved to Roswell, NM where Tom put his 27 years of experience with GTE to work as the owner/operator of T&J Communications and later as a contractor for various military bases, for the Inn of the Mountain Gods, and finally for Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Tom had most recently been employed with Krumland Auto Group as a Courier. In early 1991, Tom was introduced to Jesus the Christ and decided to follow Him all his days. Tom was never shy about sharing his faith and understood that as a very imperfect man, he had a great need be saved from his sin. Tom had a love for people, and it was his desire to tell people how to gain Eternity with God through accepting the sacrifice on the Cross of God the Son, Jesus Christ. Tom attended and helped to establish Calvary Chapel Roswell. Tom organized the monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast for many years, frequently cooking and often inviting men to attend and pray for the important people in their lives. Later, when various illnesses prevented Tom from organizing the prayer breakfast, Tom could often be found at the front doors of the church ready to listen, to encourage, or simply hold the door open. Tom was gregarious; he had a ready smile and he was a master of the “Dad Joke”. Tom liked to laugh. Loudly. Tom loved watching football and he was especially proud of his grandson when he made the Goddard Rockets team. Tom attended every home game and several away-games and he could be easily heard on the field, “Let’s go, Jake!” and “C’mon, ref!”

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Edna Boor and by his half-brother, Chuck Tessin. Tom is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Jeannie Boor; his daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Scott Brooks and their children, Christopher and Keegan; his daughter, Veronica Boor and her son Jacob Boor-Morris; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Aimee Boor and their children, Gracelyn and Riah; and his numerous “adopted kids”. Tom touched lives across the nation, and he will be sorely missed by many people.

As a cancer survivor, Tom had a heart for children with cancer. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of Tom, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, you may also Donate by Phone: (800) 478-5833.
