Shirley Ann Goodloe, 90, went to be with her Lord May 5, 2025. Born September 26, 1934, in Buna, Texas, to Archie and Fairy Scott, Shirley grew up helping her Grandfather, Hardy Richardson, who ran cattle on 3,000 acres near the Neches River. A devoted Christian, her faith in Jesus shone through her warm, accepting love for all she knew. She had a radiant smile and sparkling eyes that never faded. Graduating from Buna High School in 1952, she married Sid Goodloe, a Texas A&M graduate and they both pursued their dream of owning and working together on a ranch, raising five children-Floyd, Cindy, Jim, Sherry and Sidney. The family moved to Kenya where Sid was a range management consultant in 1966. During the two years there, they had plenty of great adventures, going on safaris and traveling through parts of Africa. Rancher and westerner at heart, Shirley was sure happy to get back home. She enriched her community through Cowbelles, Smokey Bear Stampede and Lincoln County Fair, always enjoying all the ranchers and residents. She loved the western way of life, generally seen with that ever-present smile, Persian Melon lipstick, bright western clothes, and a good lookin’ hat. Renowned for her beauty, southern cookin’, hospitality, and knowledge of ranching; she also served as Lincoln County Treasurer for two terms. She loved her family deeply and each of them admired her and would seek her wisdom often. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorabelle Damuth, son Jim, daughter in law Connie, and former husband Sid. Four children, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a nephew, three half-sisters and many beloved relatives, survive Shirley.
A small graveside service was held May 19, 2025, at Roswell South Park Cemetery.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2025 from 2PM to 5PM at the Angus Church of the Nazarene auditorium, everyone is invited to attend and enjoy honoring this special woman. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
