Sharon Rhodes, age 79, of Roswell, who passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 20, 2017 at Grace Community Church with inurnment to immediately follow at the South Park Cemetery. Pastor Rick Hale will be officiating.
Sharon was born to Paul M. and Carol Chaney Littell on February 22, 1938, and raised in Roswell. Her parents preceded her in death. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1956 and attended New Mexico State University, as a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, where she received her bachelor's and master's degree in education. She taught for the Roswell Independent School District at Mesa Middle School and Mountain View Middle School in the subject of ELA and Home Economics.
Sharon married Bruce Rhodes, who precedes her in death, in May of 1985.
Surviving family members include: four children. Carol Sapalio of State College, PA, Tom Muirhead (Bobbie), of Pauline, SC, Cathy Fields (Sam), of Rowlett, TX, and Connie Brown (Scott), of Greeley, CO and her cousins, Larry Littell of Watertown, NY and Lana Littell Boswell of Roswell. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Shaun Banister (Heather), Callee McCann, Lacee McCann, Eric Muirhead, Suzanne Muirhead Herrera (Rick), Chelsey Fields, Tory Fields, Darby Fields, Casey Brown, Ethan Brown; five great-grandchildren, Lane Thomas Muirhead, Brody McCann, Bastien McCann, Caleb Banister and Bristol Banister.
Before and after retirement, Sharon gave of her time participating in numerous service organizations: Order of Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceant, NMNEA, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Delta Kappa Gamma, Chaves County Extension Club, ENMMC Hospital Auxiliary, Senior Circle, Red Hat Society, volunteering at the International UFO Museum, Roswell Cancer Society. She has made several quilts and blankets for the Quilts of Valor organization and CASA of Roswell as well as caps for cancer patients and receiving blankets for newborns.
Bruce and Sharon owned a vacation home in Timberon for several years and loved spending time in the mountains. They formed several life-long friendships with the residents there. After Bruce's death, Sharon continued to travel with friends, spend time attending her grandchildren's activities and graduations. Sharon was a beloved member of Grace Community Church.
