Scott Miller, Sr.

Scott D. Miller, Sr., age 95, of Roswell, NM passed into heaven Thursday April 13, 2017 surrounded by family. Scott was born in Abemathy TX on July 30, 1921. After High School He joined the Army Air Force during WWII and was Honorably Discharged on 6 February 1946. Scott married the love of his life Ethel Davis on February 22 of 1945 in San Angelo, TX. To this union they had a son, Scott Jr. in 1947 an Lana in 1950.
His family established Radiator Shops in Amarillo, Plainview, San Angelo and Pecos TX. Scott was an entrepreneur and moved his family to Roswell in 1948 from TX to establish a radiator business as the owner and operator of Star Radiator (radiators, mufflers, brakes, shocks and high alloy strength bolts and nuts). He later expanded the company to Miller's Inc. dba Miller Radiator and Miller's Performance Warehouse (multi-state distribution of High Performance Automotive parts).
Scott was best known as a family man, yet had an extensive family of friends. Scott was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and did so quietly without any need for recognition. He could be found at the Joy Center playing dominoes and exercising on equipment. He was a life-long member of the First Methodist Church.
Scott was a member of the Optimist Club as President, Lt Governor and District Governor, a Board Member of the Jaycee's, Roswell Boys Club as President and Board Member, Established the Roswell Boys' Club Timing Association drag strip at the former municipal airport in 1968 with the National Hot Rod Association and sanctioned by Dale Ham, a NHRA representative. All profits went to the sponsoring Roswell Boy's Club. YMCA Board Member, American Cancer Society as the General Fund Drive Chairman, United Fund as a Board Member and Chairman Fund Drive - Employee Division, Roswell Chamber of Commerce as a Board Member and Red Coats as Honorary Life Member, Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association as the NM Representative and received the Special Project Commendation, Board Member of the NM Wholesale Association, First United Methodist Church on the Board of Trustees, First Methodist Landsun Homes in Carlsbad, NM as Chairman and Board Member, Employees Advisory Committee for the State of NM Employment Offices, Field Design Advisor to Harrison Radiator, division of General Motors on chronic radiator problem of the 1948-54 Chevy Pickups and Trucks, and Designed and built the radiator for the first Caterpillar engine equipped low profile units at the Potash Mines in Carlsbad, NM. He was instrumental in the passing of the state law prohibiting dark window film on driver's and passenger's windows for the safety law enforcement officers. And many more organizations that helped to support Roswell and the State of New Mexico.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ethel Miller and 2 brother and 6 sisters.
He is survived by his son Col (Ret) Scott Miller Jr, and his wife Sherri Roe Miller of Roswell, NM and Lana Boyer of Ruidoso, NM; Grandchildren Scott Miller III of Las Cruces, NM, Beth Harbeck and her husband Dave of West Des Moines, IA, and Melissa Leonard and her husband Stan of Henderson, NV and 3 great grandchildren of West Des Moines, IA.
