Ruby Mcshan

Ruby Mary Elizabeth McShan passed away March 2, 2016 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday May 21, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Dr. Bob Phillips will be officiating. A Celebration of Life will commence at Noon at the home of Nancy and Bob Phillips. Private interment has already taken place at South Park Cemetery.

Ruby was born a twin, February 16, 1931 in Roswell, New Mexico to Tom M. and Alma Virginia Butler-Thornton, Sr. Mother worked in a local beauty shop, drug store, as a telephone operator, and was a member of a Motorcycle Club. She raised four children, became a Girl Scout leader, First Aid Instructor, and conducted Accident Simulations to train youth in how to respond in those situations. She was proud of earning her Certified Nursing Assistant credential from ENMU-Roswell, and her many years of work in the Home Healthcare field. Mother loved gardening and growing plants. She was the Poster Girl in 2007 for Roswell's Farmers and Growers Market held each July through September. She was always wearing her vegetable-studded straw hat, and she never stopped planning for the next season. Besides selling her flowers and cuttings, she enjoyed the friends and customers she would see; as well as the community of her fellow vendors. Her other passions were bowling, handcrafts, quilting, and collecting Depression Era Glass which she marketed at "The Collection" with her brother, Tom Thornton, Jr. for many years.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband F.B. "Mac" McShan, Jr.' her parents Tom M. and Alma Virginia Butler-Thornton, Sr.; older brother Tom Thornton, Jr.; and twin brother Raymond Thornton.

She is survived by her children, daughters Nancy Phillips and her husband Bob; Bonnie Reardon and her husband Wayne; sons Fowler "Ben" McShan III; and Marshall McShan, all of Roswell.

The family is grateful to her health care providers, especially Peter Jewel, MD., and to all those who have reached out to offer stories and support!
