Roswell

MANNING, ROGER JOHN- Roger John Manning, born March 19, 1939 to Earl and Virginia Manning in Niagara Falls, NY, slipped the surly bonds of earth on Sunday, May 24, 2020 quietly at his home in Roswell, NM.

Rog was a lifelong farmer, starting as a four-year-old sitting for hours on the side of a field, watching his granddad work the ground with a team of horses. As a 7-year-old, his family moved to their own small dairy farm and his career began. At 18, he moved the family to a larger farm in Franklinville, NY where he worked for the next thirty years, first with a dairy herd, but within a few years he sold the cows to concentrate on custom farming, working many hundreds of acres up and down the valley.

Rog married Janice Rogers in 1988 and together they took on the adventure of moving to Cottonwood, NM. He grew some corn, Chile and cotton and found his best success growing premium hay for the horse market. Sadly, his hard charging ways came to an end on Oct. 27, 2005 when he was felled by a major stroke.

He spent his retirement years enjoying life on a simpler scale in Roswell. He will be missed.

Rog is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife, Janice Manning, his brothers, Gerald (Butch) Manning, Coeburn, VA, Dean Manning, Wytheville, VA, and Jeffrey Manning, Franklinville, NY. His sister, Gail Devantier, Niagara Falls, NY also survives him as well as several nieces, nephews and their children.

A memorial service will be announced later this summer to plant his cremated remains back on the Franklinville farm.
