Robert “Bobby” Bruce Hamby was born September 10, 1946, in Miami, Arizona. On July 18th, 2025, Bobby left his earthly home in Roswell, New Mexico for his heavenly home.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Eva Massey; his parents, Thomas Hamby and Mary Lille Flister; his two lifelong best friends, Lonnie Lee and Howdy Geurin; the love of his life, Karen Delores Lightfoot; Alice Wheeler Thompson; his brothers, Steve and Paul Boydston; son, Jimmy Hargrove; grandson, Dallas Hargrove; and daughter-in-law, Tasha Hargrove.
Bobby, Lonnie, and Howdy were a force to be reckoned with and could have been considered a bit rowdy in their younger days. Age settled their wild spirits and the three of them saw their friendship change to sitting around drinking coffee and hanging out, visiting, and enjoying each other’s company. The world has seen few friendships like the friendship between Bobby, Lonnie, and Howdy and Bobby’s family is comforted in knowing the three friends have joined one another in heaven, as not even the devil himself would cross the three of them when they come together. Now the three friends will stand together in the army of God, and will be worthy defenders of his throne.
In his heavenly home, Bobby joined the love of his life, Karen Delores Lightfoot. Their family believes she was standing beside Lonnie and Howdy, with a cup-o-coffee, to greet him when he arrived. Bobby and Karen fell in love many years ago and created their own unique version of a “Brady Bunch” family—six children (three boys and three girls), their spouses and partners, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom continue to carry forward their legacy of love and family.

Bobby proudly served his country in the National Guard (U.S. Army) from April 10, 1965, to January 9, 1971. He commanded respect from all who knew him—whether friend, family, or foe. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping, and riding horses. This summer, his family was blessed to spend one final fishing trip with him, a memory they will always treasure.
He was a cowboy at heart and a mechanic by gift. Bobby could fix nearly anything and generously shared his knowledge, helping friends and family alike. If you needed a fishing pole, he’d gladly lend you one—though you’d better not lose it! He was wise, kind, and full of grit. His teachings, stories, and the time he gave live on in the people he loved.
Bobby’s last words when ending phone conversations with his family were, “NOW YOU BE GOOD NOW!” Wise words, and a lasting reminder of his humor, care, and strength.
He was deeply loved—and he will be deeply missed.
Services to lay Bobby’s earthly body to rest will be held at LaGrone Funeral Home on August 9th, 2025 at 10:00 am. Following the services, the family requests all those who loved Bobby join them in a celebration of his life at Serenity Club, at 1000 E. Bland, Roswell, New Mexico.
