Nellita Dempsey

DEMPSEY NELLITA JANE - Nellita Jane Dempsey, age 89, of Roswell, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday November 11, 2015. A visitation will be held Sunday November 15, 2015, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday November 16, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church. Reverend Tina Cross, Erwin Van Essen, and John Fuss will be officiating. Interment will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
Jane was born November 8, 1926 in Parkin, Arkansas to Wilson Guy and Jane Grace Mills-Shultz. She attended Parkin Arkansas High School, then continued her education at Arkansas Tech University, the University of North Texas, the University of Central Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas. Jane met Art and married in 1947 while at the University of Central Arkansas. She taught for 2 years in McCrory, Arkansas and in Morrilton, Arkansas for 8 years. In 1959 Jane and Art moved to Roswell, New Mexico where she taught music at Edgewood Elementary, Valley View Elementary, and Berrendo Elementary. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved in F.U.M.C. Chancel Choir, F.U.M.C. Silver Chords, F.U.M.C. Searchers Sunday School Class, and the F.U.M.C. Joy Circle. Outside of church Jane was also involved in the Cactus Sams Travel Club, Eastern Star, Beauseant for Women, and the Retired Teachers Association.
Jane is preceded in death her parents Wilson Guy and Nellita Grace Shultz; husband Dewell Art Dempsey; son Dewell Shane Dempsey; granddaughter Christina Jean Morgan; brothers Donald Shultz, Paul Shultz, Wilson Shultz; sister Ruth Shultz Hinkley Howell.
She is survived by her daughters Pamela Ruth Winnie and husband Paul of Russellville, Arkansas; Nellita Shawn White of Lubbock, Texas; sons David Paul Dempsey and Gerald Wayne Dempsey both of Roswell; grandchildren Ian Morgan, Katherine Morgan, Samuel Dempsey White, Eric Dempsey, Cody Dempsey, Ashley Reyes; and 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Department of First United Methodist Church or the Cowboy Bell Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Roswell, N.M. 88201.
