SMITH, NANCY LOU - A funeral service for Nancy Lou Smith, age 78, of Roswell, NM will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Pastors Laird and Tina Cross officiating. Nancy passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Interment will be in Waterford, Ohio.

Nancy was born November 15, 1939 in Marietta, OH to Charles and Marie Finkel. Nancy graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing at Zanesville, OH in June 1962. She worked a number of years at Mercy Hospital in Mt Vernon, OH and in multiple nursing homes in Ohio. In Roswell, Nancy initially worked at Sunset Villa as the director of nurses, and at Chaves County Home Health as Hospice Director for 8 years, retiring there. Nancy was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was very active in church serving on the missions committee for a number of years. She served on the homebound communion service for the residents at Beehive Assisted Living. Nancy was also active in nursing organizations during her working years. She was a member of the Gideon's International serving as an Auxiliary member. Nancy also supported her husband, Gary in his volunteer activities. Nancy was a very caring individual and throughout here many years of nursing service she always gave her utmost to her patients.

The family would like to thank her long time physician, Dr. Audrey Vega for her professional and dedicated care, and also a thank you to her personal caregivers, Martha Aguilar, Penny Wood, Anna Cardenas, Jeremiah McDowell and Jesse Montoya for their dedicated and compassionate care.

Nancy loved animals, especially her little Pomeranian, Misty.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gary Smith; son, Ronald Smith and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Seal Beach, CA and sister, Martha S. Rock of Florence, AL.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and son, Robert Smith.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Nancy's honor to Cowboy Bell Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church or to Gideon's International.
