Nancy Corn

September 6, 1947 — June 13, 2018

CORN, NANCY NORA REEVES BROWNFIELD- Mom, Nanny, Nan, Sissy, Darlin- Nancy Corn, age 70, of Roswell, NM left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, on June 13, 2018. A Memorial Service will held 1:00 PM, Monday, June 18, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell, NM.

Nancy Nora Reeves was born on September 6, 1947, to Evelyn and EJ (Jay) Reeves in
Breckenridge, Texas. She had one older sister, Suzanne (Suzie). Their childhood in Breckenridge was filled with friends and fun at Miss Ginny's play school. When Nancy was 6, the family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and Nancy started school at Crockett Elementary School. She was double promoted after the first grade to the 3rd grade because she and her sister would come home and play school and she learned everything there was to learn in the 2nd grade!
Her father was transferred to Amarillo and the family moved there for 3 years. Then with another promotion, they moved to Dallas, Texas where they lived until the girls went to college. Nancy went to Cary Jr. High School, Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated in 1965. She went to Texas Tech University, was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and graduated in
1969.

Nancy proudly raised her two children, Shawn and Kelley, in Roswell. She was a hard working mom/educator who taught Language Arts and Math at Mt. View Middle and Mesa Middle
Schools. Later in her career, Nancy earned her Master's degree in Educational Administration from Eastern New Mexico University. She served in various administrative positions, including
Assistant Principal at Goddard High School, principal at Sunset Elementary, and principal at
Dexter Elementary School. Nancy also taught at ENMU-R in the Teacher Education program where she "taught teachers how to teach" and inspired many future educators. Nancy loved her career in Education; she did anything and everything needed to service the students in her care.
She is remembered running down the halls of Sunset Elementary in her tennis shoes to get to a classroom in need and doing home visits to reach parents who weren't willing or able to come to the school. Nancy took her work seriously and would go to any lengths to make sure her students were taken care of. Nancy had many touching stories about students she loved and cared for throughout the years. She touched many lives.

In 1993, Nancy married Robert (Bob) Corn, a native of Roswell. Bob and Nancy were married and devoted to one another for almost 25 years. They enjoyed traveling and they almost always had a bet going about whether or not it would rain; Nancy usually lost that bet! Nancy was active in Assistance League as long as she was able to be, taking great pride in being involved in and chairperson of the "School Bell" program which clothed and supplied many children in Chaves
County as they got ready for school. She served many hours at the Assistance League thrift shop and she treasured her League friends dearly.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Bob Corn; her son Shawn Brownfield and his wife Laura, granddaughters Kelsey and Layla Brownfield of Las Cruces, NM; her daughter Kelley Brownfield Alsup and grandsons, Owen and Ryan Alsup of Roswell, NM; sister Suzanne (Suzie) Gillock and her husband Cliff of Houston, TX as well as many cousins and relatives. She was a dear soul who will be missed by many, most of all her family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nancy's name to either the Cowbell
Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church of Roswell, 200 N. Pennsylvania, Roswell,
NM 88201 or to the Assistance League of Chaves County at PO Box 1324, Roswell, NM 88202.
