Mike Richard Mealand, 66, passed away on September 29, 2025, in Alamogordo, NM. Mike was born on November 2, 1958, to his father Richard Albert Mealand, and his mother Imogene Adams in Roswell, NM.
Mike spent most of his life as a police officer in Roswell, NM. After 27 years, he retired as one of the last motorcycle police officers in Roswell. He also spent his free time as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with Berrendo Fire Department. Mike absolutely loved his career, and he was proud to be serving his community in every way he could. Mike also enjoyed spending time outdoors, including fishing and hunting.
Though Mike held a high expectancy to his community and his career, there was nothing more important to him than his family. Mike was a family man. He provided for them and set an example of love and faith. Mike was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Albert Mealand and Imogene Mealand; Father-in-law, Charlie Thompson; and sister, Dena Jacobs.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Mealand; Sons, Joshua de Amusategui, and Phillip Halpain; Daughters, Betty Sue Mealand, Somer Rose Mealand, Michelle Abdill, Megan Patterson and Shannon Hubner; Brothers, Warren Aldrich (Buck), Tom Mealand, and Randy Maples; Sisters, Pat Snipes, Ladonna Willoughby, Lisa Wypych, and Melissa Mallet; Mother in-law, Betty Thompson; as well as 13 grandchildren.
Mike was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend and will be truly missed by all who knew him and had the opportunity to meet him.
A visitation for Mike will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 4pm to 6pm at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service will be held in honor of Mike the following day, Thursday, October 9, 2025, 10am, at Grace Community Church with a burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Retired Roswell Police Association and/or to the Chaves County Sheriff’s Department.
