SMITH, MERLE ROSS - Merle Ross Smith, age 66, of Melrose, NM will lay in state all day, Monday, September 14, 2015, the family will be receiving condolences from
5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 9:00 am, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Harold Hobson will
officiate.
Merle Ross Smith passed away on September 9, 2015 in Melrose, NM. He was born on March 5, 1949 to T.H. Smith and Christine McMennamy in Roswell, NM. He
served in the Navy and met his first wife Mui Wilson while in service in Vietnam. He once told his son that the Navy was his way to see the world. He was an aircraft
mechanic and this profession allowed him to live all over the country and travel around the world. He loved rebuilding classic trucks and classic tractors. He and his
brother, Connie Mac Smith, were members of the Pecos Valley Classic Ag club. He was a wonderful father and grandfather known as G-pa to his grandchildren.
His quiet, loving demeanor will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wendell Dean and Connie Mac; sister, Darla Kay.
Merle is survived by his wife Maya, son, Daniel Smith and his wife Melissa of Roswell, NM; daughters Landa Sherry and her husband Matt of Littleton, CO,
Annette Pitkethly and her husband Ben of Boulder, CO; step-daughters, Tina Jackson and Erika Grimes both of California; brother Coy Smith and his wife Clyde of
Roswell, NM; sister, Jackie Williams of Roswell, NM; grandchildren, Bryson, Ashton, Daci Smith, Xavier and Amelia Sherry, Madison Pitkethly, Tanner Collins, and
Devyn Grimes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bryson Smith, Tanner Collins, Devyn Grimes, Matt Sherry and Ben Pitkethly.
Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
