Matthew Cress

CRESS, MATTHEW- Our beloved brother Matthew Cress passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 at the age of 62. Matt was born to Bob and Martha Cress in Roswell on Sept. 19, 1957.

He graduated from Goddard High School in 1976 and later went through the oil field training program at ENMU-R. He worked in the oil fields from the Middle East to the Southwest, at Nova Bus/TMC, and lastly at Halliburton; but those jobs did not define him. Matt was happiest in nature, with a camera slung around his neck, looking for the perfect photograph. He loved road trips particularly when they took him off the beaten path.

Matt cherished his many, many friends. That love and friendship gave him strength and courage this past year. Heartfelt thanks to all of you who were there for Matthew especially in his final days.

Matt is survived by his son Kevin Smart (Cindy) of Midland, TX and granddaughter Charlotte Smart; daughter Tricia Cress (Normando Barron) of Las Cruces and grandsons Aiden & Oliver Barron; brother  Joshua Cress (Darcy) of St. Paul, MN; sisters Anna Ericsson (Clyde) of Boerne, TX; Ruth Liyama of Everett, WA, and Eve Carnell (Randy) of Seattle; eight nieces and nephews and countless dear friends.

Matt wanted to give thanks to AA for saving his life and giving him an extra 20-plus years of adventures.

Matt will be missed.

Due to COVID-19, no celebration of life will be held at this time.
