Karin Mainello

Roswell

Karin Zarges Mainello passed from this world to Heaven on January 16, 2021 in Roswell, New Mexico. This beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born in Frankenberg/Eder, Germany on November 21, 1939. She immigrated to the United States and married the love of her life, Joseph Mainello in Trinidad Colorado on May 3, 1958. She became a naturalized American citizen on April 13, 1965 and openly stated that she was proud to be an American. After initially living in Phoenix, AZ, Karin and her husband moved to Roswell, New Mexico and lived there most of her married life of 62 years.

Karin is survived by her husband Joseph Mainello, son Michael Mainello and his wife Alice Mainello of Lovington, NM and granddaughter Lauren Mainello of Tucson, AZ. Daughter Deborah Vance her husband Maxwell Vance of Roswell, NM, grandson MSG Christopher Koonce and wife Svenja Koonce stationed at Hurlburt Field, Navarre Field, FL and great grandson Jannek Grundheber ( Currently serving in the German Army), grandson John (Jay) Monk, Jr and wife Joann Monk and great grandsons JJ Monk and JT Monk, Deltona, FL and granddaughter Amanda Cruz and husband Nelson (Alex) Cruz, great granddaughter Chloe Wellner, Apoka, FL. Son Joseph J. Mainello and wife Patricia Mainello, grandson Luke Mainello and granddaughter Anna Mainello of Nashville, TN. Daughter Stephanie de Lara and husband Raul de Lara, grandson Mateo de Lara and granddaughter Madison de Lara all of Roswell, NM and grandson Zachary de Lara of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her sister Elke Zarges Daoud and her husband Adele Daoud of Germany. Preceding her in death was son Daniel J. Mainello who went to Heaven on September 17, 2013 and her parents Theodore Zarges and Elfriede Zauner Zarges of Germany.

Karin was a great wife and mother who had many talents and hobbies. When asked by a friend, Mike Greaves, she went to work at Otero Federal Credit Union when they first opened a branch in Roswell. She was then employed by Chaves County Assessor’s Office and was Chief Deputy for several of those years. Upon retiring. She and her husband moved to Timberon, NM for 15 years, while also maintaining a residence in Roswell, NM. She loved horses, raising several who were hunter/ jumpers. Karin was always interested in sewing. With the extra time of retirement, she devoted a lot of her time and talent to sewing, embroidering, and designing resulting in hundreds of treasured quilts.

Karin became a member of the International Order of Foresters in 1965, a fraternal insurance group. Over the years, she was extremely active with the fraternal part of the organization. She held many positions both large and small and currently held the position of Vice President of Southwest Branch, a national part of Foresters Financial. During her years in this voluntary position, she organized charitable events and was responsible for donations to several worthy causes. In November 2018, Karin was presented with the “We believe in making a difference” Foresters International President’s award. Karin was the type of individual who was always busy and embodied the word multi-tasking. She loved life and fully lived it. Karin was a Catholic and extremely religious in her beliefs, providing comfort for her family knowing she is now in Heaven.

A viewing for Karin will be held from 5:00PM- 7:00PM Wednesday, February 3,2021 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 10:00AM with Father Ivan Torres officiating. Interment to follow at General Douglas McBride.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in her name would be greatly appreciated.
