John Albert Betchie: October 16, 1928 -August 8, 2016.

A private memorial service was held for John Albert Betchie, age 87, who passed away Monday, August 8, 2016.

John was the first of 3 children born to John Paul (1903-1992) and Lena Madeline Oliva (1902-1948) Betchie. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 16, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his Brother Donald G. Betchie (1930-1997) and Sister Marlene B. Betchie Stanovich (1932-2010).

He served in the U.S Navy from 1945 to 1949 as a boiler operator, serving on the U.S.S. Charles H. Roan and later with his brother on the U.S.S. Spokane. After the Navy he served with the Merchant Marines until 1953. He had lived throughout the U.S. in Columbus and Hamilton,
Ohio; Madison Heights, Michigan; then on to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served 2 years as a Reserve Sheriffs' Deputy in Bernalillo County before moving to Roswell where he retired from US West/Qwest and lived with his wife Anne Betchie of 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, son Albert B. Betchie and daughter Kathryn Denise Webb along with 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 step-daughters, Cecelia Mayne, Rebecca Davis, Lea Anne Johnson, and Enid Smith; 10 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great grandchildren. He loved to play cribbage and do crossword puzzles. He enjoyed model trains, sailing ships and U.S. Western History.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the staff at Sunset Villa Care Center and his at home caregivers for all the love and care they gave John.
