John was born April 10, 1941 in Sheldon, Iowa to Lloyd and Erna Archer. They both have preceded him in death.
John married Rosanne Vesmar on July 13, 1985 in Pittsburgh, PA. She survives him at the family home.
He is also survived by his son, Jason Archer of Roswell and a brother, Thomas Archer and his wife Azucena of San Diego, CA.
John was a farm manager. He was a member of the Unitarian Church.
