JODI LOU BERRYMAN--Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. today, July 10, 2006, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Jodi Lou Berryman, age 97, of Roswell. After a wonderful day with family and friends, Mrs. Berryman passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning, July 8, 2006. Pastor Rick Hale of Grace Community Church will officiate, with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Berryman was born July 27, 1908, in Rronte, Texas, to Joseph and Ina Josephine Harrell. While working at a dry goods store in Littlefield, Texas, she met Benjamin Carroll Berryman. They married Aug. 9, 1929. They moved to Corona where they began their life together farming, ranching and raising their two sons.

Jodi worked hard, getting up very early to cook for her husband and sons as well as the thrashing crews or fellow ranchers wheo would come through to help them harvest or work cattle. She would then clean her house, which for many years included sweeping dirt floors, and do laundry - boling the water on her wooden stove and using a wringer washer. Jodi took care of her many chickens including shooting rattlesnakes and other predators. She would work in the corn fields, then go back in to prepare a big dinner. Everyone loved her wonderful homemade dinner rolls.

Mr. and Mrs. berryman bought a ranch in Cebolla, N.M., around 1951 and went solely into the cattle business for more than 20 more years. Mr. Berryman passed away in 1981 and Jodie has been living close to or with her two sons since then. In 2000, she moved to Roswell, where she spent a great deal of time with her granddaughter's family.

Jodi was preceded in death by her brothers Sonny and Howard T. Harrell and her sister Willie Bryant, The late Thelma Simmons, Virgie Harrell and Marie Macklin.

Jodie is survived by her two beloved sons, James Douglas Berryman and his wife, Margaret, of Temple, Texas, and Donald Carroll Berryman and his wife, Sharron, of Cebolla, N.M.; her brothers Seally and James G. Harrell; and her sister Floyd Eudy and her husband, Frank. Jodie has eight grandchildren: Fredda Blair and huband, Rick of Las Cruces, N.M.; Patty Jennings and husband, Tim, of Roswell; Dough Berryman Jr. and his wife Rhonda, of Las Cruces; Dan Berryman and wife, Beth of Pecos, N.M.; Joel Berryman of Cebollar, NM; and Penny Smith of Oklahoma.
