Jess Jenkins

JENKINS, JESS J. “JJ” - Jess J. (JJ) Jenkins, age 88, passed from this life on June 28, 2019 in Texas. He was born December 12, 1930 to the home of John and Autie Jenkins.

JJ is preceded in death by his wife Edna Florence Selman Jenkins; daughter Jayna Jenkins Welma; grandson Christopher Mohon; one great grandson; brother Rister Jenkins; parents John and Autie Jenkins and son in law John Mohon.

JJ served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. His love of science led him to attend Texas Tech University and the University of Arizona where he earned his bachelor and masters degrees respectfully. JJ then taught chemistry at and retired from New Mexico Military Institute. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Roswell where he served as a deacon and chairman of the deacons.

JJ is survived by daughters Nancy Jenkins Haney and husband Ed of Shallowater, TX, Patsy Jenkins Mohon of Milnesand, New Mexico, and Meri Jenkins Schrader and husband Dave of Cincinnati, Ohio and sister Nan Jenkins and husband Timmi Kuykendall of Austin, Texas. “Grandy” is also survived by seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 5, 2019 at South Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Jenkins-Selman Family Endowed Scholarship Fund at Wayland Baptist University.
