Janet B. Titus, a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, went peacefully to be with the Lord on November 14, 2024, at home in Roswell, NM. She was 92 years old and was born on October 11, 1932, in Urbana, Illinois to Guy and Bernice Nendell. She married Melvin Titus on November 12, 1949, and they raised five children.
She led a full life as a homemaker and ceramic business owner. After Melvin’s retirement they were both active with the Telephone Pioneers volunteering for community service in multiple cities and states. With the Pioneers she helped make Hug-A-Bears, which were donated to many police departments and hospitals to hand out to children. She also worked as a volunteer at Roswell Bottomless Lakes Visitor Center and Campgrounds, where she received recognition for the many years worked there.
Those left to treasure and cherish memories of Janet are her husband Melvin, 96, son Melvin Titus Jr. 73 and wife Christy, daughter Sheri Shideler, 72 and husband Tom, son Jim Titus, 71, son Philip Titus, 67 and daughter Laura Bain, 65. Also her sisters Jackie Hatter and husband Eddie of Bay City, MI and Jeri Lou Awad of Las Vegas, NV. As well as her 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Bernice Nendell; brother, Don Nendell and sister, Pat Roll. Also, her sister-in-law Floy Newling and husband George, and niece Nanette Winn.
Janet/Mom, you will be greatly missed by your family who loved and respected you. You will also be missed by all the friends you made through life and through volunteering over the many years. We love you and miss you and will always remember you. Thank you for everything you showed us in life – to be respectful, responsible, hardworking and to love and help each other.
A memorial service will be held on November 23, 2024, 1:00pm at the First Church of the Nazarene in Roswell, NM at 501 N. Sycamore Ave.
