A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Assumption Catholic Church for James Foley. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 10, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., at Assumption Catholic Church, Father Bill McCann will officiate. Mr. Foleys body will be laid to rest at the Calverton National Cemetery, on Long Island, New York Monday Morning, August 14, 2006

James Patrick Foley of Artesia, New Mexico died on Sunday August 6, 2006 after a brief battle with illness. Mr. Foley left this world with his loving wife by his side, peacefully in his sleep.

Born in Middle Village, Queens, New York, February 2, 1926, the youngest child of Minnie Rickert and John Lawrence Foley, he was a resident of Artesia since 1989. Jim lived most of his life on Long Island in New York. Both his Brother John and Sister Florence Foley preceded him in death.

He had a long career as the supervisor of ramp service for American Airlines at both the La Guardia and John F. Kennedy Airports in New York. Mr. Foley retired from American Airlines after 30 years of faithful service. It was rumored that Jim was promoted for his pitching, as a winning pitcher for the American Airlines traveling squad. Jim faithfully served his country as a naval veteran of World War II, were he defended his country in the Pacific.

Jim Foley is survived by his wife, Maureen Ann Foley and his three children. Representative Dan Reardon Foley and his wife Debbie Ann, of Roswell, New Mexico, Timothy Charles Foley of Boise, Idaho and his only daughter, Dawn Marie Batista, wife of James Michael Batista, of Providence, Rhode Island. Jim was blessed with Grandchildren from each of his children Timothy James Foley, Tristen William Foley, Joshua Mathew Francis Foley, Cameron Ryan Foley, Hannah Catherine Foley and Brook Lynn Batista. Mr. Foley will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews who loved him.
PMr. Foley will forever be remembered as a fixture at local athletic events from Cloudcroft to Artesia onto Roswell. On an afternoon in late September Mr. Foley could always be found in the corner of the bleachers watching practice. If he had a child or grandchild playing he was always present with his encouraging nods and patient smile. Jim loved his sports whether playing in his youth where he was signed to the New York Baseball Giants before leaving to serve his country in the Pacific, during World War II. Jim was known for his keen understanding of the game of baseball and often could be found teaching an enthusiastic eight year-old how to drive an outside pitch into right field. Jim was loved by many and will be forever missed by all. Next time youre at the ball park take a moment to tip your hat to Mr. Foley for he will always be
