ROBERTS, IDA MAE PEGGYServices are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 15, 2006 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Peggy Roberts, age 95, of Roswell, who passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at a local nursing home. Ken Wilson will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery

Peggy was born November 16, 1910 in Capitan, Lincoln, New Mexico to Lewis Gordon Purcella and Annie Elizabeth Van Winkle. She is preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her husband Ed, four brothers, little Jesse he passed as an infant, and Bill, Mart and John Purcella also preceded her in death. She had five sisters that preceded her in death as well, Annie, Allie, Ruby, Viola and Jocie.

Peggy and Ed Roberts were married In June of 1950, in California.

Peggy is survived by her sister: Mittie Ruth McBride of Lu Luz, New Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peggy and Ed made California their home for most of their early years. They moved to Missouri and then back to New Mexico, where they lived in Roswell for a while then moved to Alamogordo, NM.

The Purcellas were ranchers in Lincoln County for many years. While growing up in a large family she had to work on the ranch, as did all of the Purcellas children. They were all quiet a talented bunch all the way from busting broncs to playing musical instruments. Peggy played the violin and the guitar, and played for dances as a young girl with her sisters. Peggy and Mittie used to travel to Roswell to visit two or three days at a time until Peggy was not able to make the long drive. She was still driving but very little up until she had a stroke and was hospitalized.

Pallbearers will be Macaire Bitela, Gene Sparks, Lee Crandall, Joe L. Winkler, Donnie Hoskins and Harvey Van Winkle. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Bill McIntosh, Willie M. McInnes, Danny Hartranft, and Lanis Hartranft.

Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
