Hoie Boyd Sparkman departed this earth to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the age of 96, in Roswell, NM. His loving wife, Jean C. Sparkman, had preceded him in death in 2018, after 67 years of marriage.
A visitation for Hoie will be located at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, June 2, 2026, between 2:00p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will also be held there on June 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Andy LaReau, from Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. All times are Mountain Time.
Hoie was born on April 14, 1930 in Dexter, NM to John Willard and Irene Sparkman. He grew up in Southeast New Mexico. Hoie attended Roswell High School and graduated in 1950. It was there that he met the love of his life Jean C. Guss. Maybe it was his gymnastics skills that caught her eye! They were married on April 21, 1951.
Hoie loved the Lord Jesus Christ! He served as Pastor for Grace Temple Baptist Church in Roswell, NM, as well as, Midway Baptist Church in Midway, NM.
Hoie owned a milk distribution business, delivering milk from house to house for many years. He spent the rest of his working years in retail sales before retiring.
Hoie loved the mountains where he camped, fished, and hunted with his family. Most of all, he loved attending Cowboy Camp with his wife, Jean.
Hoie is preceded in death by his parents, JW and Irene Sparkman, as well as his wife, Jean C. Sparkman.
He has been blessed by many surviving family members: His daughter, Glenna Roark of Roswell, NM; his son, Kevin (Jeannie) Sparkman; grandchildren: Brian (Beth) Roark, Staci (Luis) Barrios, Jennifer Sparkman, Amanda (James) Oliver; great-grandchildren: Gabriel, Keziah, Lily, Rosie, Adaya, Anthony, Shayla, Ava, Grant, Luis Christopher, Kiara, Clara, Xander; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: John Sturza, Luis Barrios, Kiara Barrios, James Oliver, Anthony Aldridge, and Darryl Clements. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ken Arther.
We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation for the support and prayers from Interim Hospice; Kim, John, Alicia, and Melba.
