Helen Nelson

NELSON, HELEN FAYE- Helen Faye Nelson passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Wednesday, February 28, 2018. A visitation will be held 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, March 4, 2018 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 5, 2018 at West Country Club Road Church of Christ with Doug Austin officiating. Interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.

Helen was born to Luther Gibson and Alpha P. Phillips Gibson in Yeager, Kentucky.
Helen met the love of her life, Delbert W. Nelson in church in Alamogordo, NM in 1947. They married June 25, 1949 in Alamogordo and moved to Roswell in 1952.

Helen was an incredible wife and mother who worked hard all her life to take care of her family, she loved to cook and bake. She was an active member of the West Country Club Road Church of Christ, and enjoyed hosting church activities. Helen also enjoyed painting landscapes and traveling around the country.

Helen was the owner and operator of The Newcomers Guide, welcoming newcomers to Roswell and advertising for local businesses in the area for 40 years.

Helen is survived by her husband, Delbert W. Nelson of the home; sons, Dan Nelson and wife, Ilene of Scottsdale, AZ; Terry Nelson and wife, Eleanor of Carlsbad, NM; one brother, John Paul Gibson and wife, Virginia of Louisville, Kentucky. Her three grandchildren, which were the light of her life, Randee and husband, Jason Lutterloh, Arielle Nelson and Cole Nelson. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alpha P. Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Davis Bennett, Jerry McCormack, Tim Dunnahoo, Joshua Watkins, Jason Lutterloh, and Jerry Salyard. Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Bertola, Willy Chavez, Paul Elkins, George Elkins, and Cole Nelson.
