Helen Grace Franklin, born to Clarence (Red) Furlong and Alma Smith Furlong, on December 30, 1924, passed away on December 14, 2025. The oldest of 6 children found herself in the caregiver position at the tender age of 10 after her mom’s passing.
She later became the mother of 4 girls. Two preceded her in death, Margaret Grantham and Sue Parker. Helen, a wonderful cook, fed many a hungry cowboy and always had family and friends over for a meal.
Helen leaves behind 2 daughters, Sharon Chrisman of Roswell and Janice (Raymond) Derrick of Tatum. Ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, numerus great-great grandchildren and her son-in-law Floyd Grantham of Lubbock.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Truman and Kenneth; sisters, Pat Fox, Midge Crisp, and Gloria Mendenhall; 2 daughters; and 2 great grandchildren.
Helen also leaves behind 2 very special nephews, Jack (Marvine) Fox and Steve (Nancy) Fox. She loved them like her own.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of San Pedro Nursing Home in Artesia and Sunset Villa in Roswell for the care given and love received.
There will be a celebration of life in honor of Helen on December 30, 2025, at South Park Cemetery, at 1:00pm.
