Helen Jane Ferrell

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00am, Friday, August 15, 2025, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Helen Jane Ferrell, aged 96, who passed away on August 9, 2025. Reverend Pigott will officiate. In addition, a viewing is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
Helen was born on September 20, 1928, in Chesapeake, Ohio to W.A. Gallaher and Della Blanche Gallaher. Both parents precede her in death.
Helen married J. Harold Ferrell on July 21, 1951, in Huntington, West Virginia. Her husband preceded her in death.
Helen is survived by sons Mark Edward Ferrell and his wife Catherine Ferrell of Stafford, Virginia and John Andrew Ferrell of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is also survived by three grandchildren Georgia Ferrell of Stafford, Virginia, Trisha Steiniger and husband Mike Steiniger of Orange, Virginia, and Sierra Ferrell and James Dakota Quinn of North Port, Florida and three great-grandchildren Noah Ferrell of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Alex and Abel Ferrell of North Port, Florida.
Helen graduated from Huntington High School and Marshall University in Huntington, West, Virginia. She initially taught school in Glen Alum, West Virginia where she met her future husband Harold who was also a teacher. After their marriage in 1951, Helen and Harold moved to several locations in West Virginia and Ohio before settling in Roswell, New Mexico in 1961. Helen worked several jobs in Roswell including a job she really loved at Carpenter’s Nursery. Helen always loved flowers and was an active member of the American Iris Society, often displaying her irises at annual shows. A passionate quilter since age 12, Helen was a charter member of the Pecos Valley Quilter Guild. Helen was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church.
