Geneva Gwartney

November 2, 1924 — April 8, 2018

Geneva Gwartney passed away on April 8, 2018 at home with her family beside her. She was looking forward to seeing the Lord and meeting up with John, her husband of 74 years.

She was born October 31, 1924 in Sudan, Lamb County Texas to James Thomas Witcher and Ada Lurana Morris Witcher. She married John E Gwartney on June 5, 1942 in Roswell, Chaves County New Mexico. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2016

Geneva lived a full life having worked early on as a switchboard operator and house wife. In 1962 she and John started J & G Electric and in 1970 she also also opened Pandora's Box, a children's store. After retiring in 1990, Geneva and John both enjoyed traveling and visiting family for their remaining years. Geneva and John touched a lot of lives and will be missed by many.

Geneva is survived by four children and their spouses, Judy Nickson and Ned of Denison Texas, Elizabeth (Betty) Lowney and Walter of Broomfield, Colorado, Becky Smith and L.M. Smith of Lincoln, New Mexico, and Bruce Gwartney and Ginger of Roswell, New Mexico.
She is also survived by one brother, Leonard Morris Witcher and his wife Eva Ann of Artesia, New Mexico and was preceded in death by one sister Olene Dollahon and one brother James D Witcher.

Geneva was loved by 7 grandchildren, Brad Nickson and LaSandra of Tulsa, OK, Shelby Mullins and Johnny of Erie, CO, Jenna Peebles and Matt of Laguna Niguel, CA, Nicholas Cox of Carlsbad, NM, Zachary Head and Lindsey of Houston, TX, Katie Roehlk and husband Jonathan of Roswell, NM, and Ty Gwartney of Pearl City, HI.

She was the proud great grandmother to five great-grandchildren: Frankie Thompson, Toni Thompson, Ella Mullins, Madison Peebles and Nate Peebles. She will be laid to rest with her husband at the McBride Cemetery in Roswell in a family ceremony at a later time.
