Gary John Oldfield, 74, passed away on October 27, 2025, at his home in Roswell, NM. Born on April 15, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, Gary’s life was a testament to service, education and steadfast faith.
A graduate from Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois, Gary earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Illinois. He later obtained a Special Education Licensure K-12 from ENMU-Portales, a turning point that marked the beginning of his impactful career as an educator and mentor.
From 1991-2002, Gary served as a Life Skills Teacher with the RISD. He continued his dedication to students as a Special Education Instructor and Caseload Manager at Berrendo Middle School until May 2010. His commitment to youth development extended to ENMU-Roswell, where he mentored cadets at the New Mexico National Guard Youth Challenge Academy from August 2013 through May 2022. Earlier in his career he worked as an office supervisor at PNM in Artesia from 1981-1989.
Gary’s devotion to his faith and community was unwavering. At Christ Church, he taught the School of Disciples on Sundays and actively participated in ministries such as Harvest Ministries, door-to-door evangelism, Crossings Prison Ministry Program and Prison Fellowship Outreach at the RCC and local jail.
Gary found joy in many hobbies that reflected both his active spirit and generous heart. He enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren, playing golf, hiking, playing pool, soul-stirring music, and volunteering wherever there was a need.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jackie Oldfield; daughter Carolynn Armstrong and husband Dennis Armstrong; son Joe Oldfield and wife Tiffany Oldfield; father-in-law Jack Harrelson; sister-in-law Stephanie Jones and husband Marty Jones; nephew Nick Oldfield; niece Stefany Oldfield; and beloved grandchildren Gavin Armstrong, Liam Armstrong, Chloe Oldfield and Mason Oldfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Rapisarda; Father John Oldfield; Brother Glen Oldfield and his wife Carol “Cookie” Oldfield; and mother-in-law Lace Harrelson.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on December 13. 2025, at 11:00am at Christ Church, 2200 N. Sycamore Ave, Roswell, NM
