Freddie Smith

Freddie Dean Smith, age 89, of Roswell passed away January 5, 2017. A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Michael Basford will be officiating.

Freddie was born December 6, 1927 in Melrose, NM to Richard Wayne Smith and Fairy Lavita Newbill. He married Mary Cornelia Lewis in Tucumcari, NM on December 24, 1949.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard Wayne and Fairy Lavita Smith, one brother Ronnie Smith who passed away in 1945 in Melrose, NM, his wife Mary Smith who passed away on December 20, 1994, one great-granddaughter Kimberlee who passed away on February 3, 2012. Fred worked for Mountain Bell and retired from there around 1982. He was always a loving and caring father.

He is survived by daughters Marcie Cornelia Basford of Spokane, WA, Trudy Ann Newman of Mesquite, NV; a son Douglas Alan Smith of Henderson, NV; grandchildren Leslee, Kristy, Travis, Lyndie Renee, Anna, Desiree, Erik, Jena; nine great-grandchildren; sister Jean Primrose, Dehon Smith; brothers Virgil Smith, and Weldon Smith.
