Obituary

Services are scheduled for 10am, Friday, June 26th at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Floyd Dewayne Harper, age 80, of Roswell, who passed away June 5th, 2026. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Kendall Tomlinson of Stanton, Tx, will be officiating.

A Lifelong resident of Roswell, NM, graduating Roswell High School in 1960. He started his career as a salesman with local bread companies, which led to Affiliated Foods, Inc., from which he retired.

He delivered to many restaurants and became a staple at Martin’s Capitol Cafe, where he ate daily, telling lively stories, which drew friends to join his table. His knack for storytelling led people to join his table which steadily grew into a breakfast group that exists to this day. When Covid hit, and the restaurants closed, the group had to figure a way to still meet. Dewayne opened up his green Cushman barn, on E. McGaffey, where the coffee, food, and stories continued. Memories were made. His hobby was restoring and collecting Cushman scooters, Coke-a-Cola memorabilia, being an avid art collector, and renting properties as a non-slum landlord.

He was survived by one daughter, and two sons of Roswell. Sister, Loretta (Wanda) Dent, of Roswell; brothers, Bobby Harper (Fae), of Ruidoso, NM, and Milton Harper, of Roswell; Nieces, Amy Rymer, Jennifer Tomlinson, and nephews, Brandon Dent, Brad Harper, Robbie Harper, Brandon Harper, and Bryce Harper. Many loyal (and a few ornery) friends, who will miss his laughs and stories.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Floyd Harper and Jessie Doris Wilson, and his brother, Melvin Levi Williams.

Pall bearers are: E.J. Fouratt, Tim Jennings, Brad Harper, Robbie Harper, Brandon Harper, Bryce Harper.

Honorary pall bearers are: Tommy Weathers, Gary Richburg, Bill Wolf, Mac McFerraz, Tandy Hunt, Eric Coll.

Special thanks to his care givers, Martha, Maria and Cindy for their loyal, loving, and endless care they gave above and beyond a normal job, giving his twilight years happiness and contentment, meaning, and hope. He knew his Lord and accepted Him as his savior, in baptism, in his young adult life. May he rest in peace.
