Hans earned an electrical engineering degree in Germany and a Ph.D.  He immigrated to the USA in 1957.  He was as an Professional Electrical Engineer for Bell Labs/AT&T having lived in New Jersey, Louisiana, and Northern California.  He was an entrepreneur and successful business man having opened an independent hearing aid practice in Walnut Creek, California, eventually he retired to Roswell, New Mexico.

He also enjoyed hiking, fishing, camping, driving his Mercedes, and tinkering around in his garage.  His daughters, Nina and Lisa, fondly remember going on camping trips with their Dad and driving around in his orange International Scout.  One time while fishing with his son in law, Dan, and grandson Patrick, on the great Lake Superior, they caught a lake trout.  He chuckled and said, "We caught one dumb fish!"  His grandchildren were always excited when "Grandpa Hans" would make a surprise visit to California or Arizona.

Those who got to know Hans would say, "He was someone you wanted to get to know, and when you did who were so glad you had".  Hans lived a very storied life and was so proud of his two daughters, Nina and Lisa.
