Erma Crawford

Erma Ellen Crawford, age 90, passed away Wednesday April 26, 2017. Visitation will be 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Friday, April 28, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 9:30 AM, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Pastor Doug Austin of Country Club Road Church of Christ will be officiating.

Erma Ellen Crawford was born December 12, 1926 in Ladonia, Texas to Tom and Nettie Whitcamp. Her father worked for an oil drilling company, so the family lived in many places in West Texas before moving to Roswell in 1943. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1944, and attended Nurses Training at Wichita General Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. She met her future husband, Fletcher Crawford, the year her family moved to Roswell; they were married in 1944. Fletch was in the Army Air Corps so they lived in a number of places, but came back to live in Roswell in December of 1945.

They bought a place next to the O.B. Crawford family farm on the Berrendo River and raised their family of four children and a nephew. All were a great source of pride, and she was happiest when her family was around.

Erma worked with Brownies and Cub Scouts as well as Sports Booster and PTA activities when the children were young. She worked in the office of Earl L Malone, MD for 30 years. After he retired, she worked in the office of Don R Clark, MD for the next 20 years. She became a Certified Medical Assistant in 1968 and was active in Chaves County and NM Medical Assistants. She is a long time member of Order of Eastern Star and Social Order of the Beauceant.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Nettie Whitcamp; Erma's husband of 63 years, Fletcher Crawford; two sisters, Doris June Groves and Judy Alice Butts; one brother, Leon Whitcamp.

She is survived by daughters, Nettie Lee Crawford and husband Robert Pfister of Lubbock, Texas; Shirley Jo Crawford and husband Gary Cozzens of Capitan, NM; Nancy Ann Bartley and husband Byron of Chattanooga, TN; son, Tommy Fletcher Crawford and wife Judy of Sun City West, AZ; and nephew, Clarence Woodrow Crawford and wife Ann of Las Cruces, NM.

Fletcher and Erma have six granddaughters who survive them, Aimee Cvancara and husband Ryan of Anthem, AZ; Emily Brown and husband Josh of Mesa, AZ; Jamie Miele and husband Adam of Flagstaff, AZ; Tracy Spivey and husband Dan of Roswell, NM; Toni Maxwell and husband Charles of Chattanooga, TN; and Kristi Flores and husband Miguel of Roswell, NM. She is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.
