THOMPSON, ELEANOR MARGARET (PEGGY)- Eleanor Margaret (Peggy) Thompson, 76, passed away unexpectedly on August 14th, 2020 in Roswell, NM. Peggy was born June 27th, 1944 in Las Cruces, NM to Martin Thorpe and Eleanor Wood Thorpe. She grew up at the family crop and livestock farm in Dona Ana with her parents and two brothers. She often told stories of playing in the silo and picking cotton. Peggy graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1962. She attended New Mexico State University for a short time. While attending NMSU, she met the love of her life William Ray (Bill) Thompson and they were married on June 7, 1964 in Las Cruces.

Peggy lived in Carlsbad with Bill and their sons for 10 years before moving to their current residence in Dexter. After the boys were in school, Peggy worked in the Dexter School District as the Library assistant, and later as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent until she retired in 2007. Peggy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Roswell. After retirement, Peggy volunteered at the Dexter Town Library for a short time. She also volunteered at the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center Auxiliary up until this Spring. Peggy is survived by her sons, Troy Thompson (Gayle), of Roswell , and Trace Thompson of Dexter. She is also survived by her twin grandchildren Darci Thompson and Tanner Thompson, (Rebeka), and great granddaughter, Mia. Also surviving Peggy is her brother Topper Thorpe (Leeann) of Cliff, NM.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents as well as Bill, her husband of 47 years. She was also preceded in death by a brother Phillip Thorpe, and niece Tammy, along with numerous aunts and uncles.

There will be no scheduled service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cowboy Bell Scholarship fund, Chaves County Rodeo Association, or Cowboys for Cancer Research.
