Elaine Deaton

February 1, 1931 — March 19, 2019

DEATON, ELAINE- On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, Elaine J. Deaton passed away at the age of 88 surrounded by her adopted family Jeff, Laura, Bailey Weathers, Greg Smith, Jesse and Barbara Gomez, and her daughter Julie Deaton.
Elaine was born on February, 1, 1931 an only child in Volga, South Dakota to Cora and Theodore Dahl. She spent most summers at her grandparents and uncle's farm in North Dakota, helping in fields and playing with the kitties in the barn, they would follow her around. She would lay in the hay with the baby bulls and pet them till they were old enough to go out on their own. She loved the farm and being barefoot all summer long, then went back home to Volga, S.D to school and shoes. You knew where she preferred to be!!!
She graduated and moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. and worked at the Sisters Hospital as an assistant to the nurses. She liked that and planned to become a nurse, but plans changed, when she moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star from the years 1955 to 1966.
God Blessed dad and I when she came into our lives. I thank God every day for her. Elaine and my dad (Wayne Deaton) married on February14, 1964 in St. Joseph Missouri. She worked as a cook, waitress and a house keeper for others, until they moved to Roswell, N.M. in October of 1988. They attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church and volunteered for many groups such as The Community Kitchen for one, she really enjoyed that.
She was the best mother anyone could have asked for. I feel very lucky she was my mother and my friend. She was supportive, very loving, funny, and was a little stubborn. She helped me to make the right decisions of course with some mistakes. She molded the person I am today. Elaine taught me we are all God's children. She loved everyone she met. There was no race nor color in her eyes. Only friendship and family. I regret where all we and I have lived that everyone can't be that way.
I was very privileged to take care of her the last years of her life. And I wouldn't have changed that for anything. I would like to thank the ENMMC- ICU staff and Doctors, The Roswell Fire Department, The Ambulance Service for their kind care to my mom, also the staff from Frontier Medical, CASA, and all our friends for their phone calls and Father Dale Plummer.
Those left to cherish memories of Elaine are her daughter Julie Deaton, many cousins in North Dakota, South Dakota, California, and Chicago, family and friends, and her loving awnrey cat little one.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Cora and Theodore Dahl, her husband Wayne Deaton and her cat Cheerio. Services will be held on Saturday March 30, 2019 at 2:00PM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Father Dale Plummer officiating.
