Edwin Eugene & Ella Mae Eaton

Roswell

A viewing for Ella "Micki" Mae (88) and Edwin “Ed” Eugene (90) Eaton will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery with Pastor Rick Hale, of Grace Community Church officiating and Tim Arlet, of Adventure Bible Church as singer.

At age 90, Ed suffered a fall just before Christmas and was flown to Lubbock for surgery and rehabilitation. While he was in Lubbock, Micki became ill and passed away on January 9, 2021. Ed's condition worsened and he was released to return home where he passed on January 21, 2021.

Ed was born on April 8, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Clarence and Alice (Nichols) Eaton. He graduated from high school there, then the family moved to Denver, Colorado. He attended Denver University before enlisting in the U.S. Coastguard where he served 3 years. While stationed in Aberdeen, Washington he met the love of his life, Ella Mae Marquart, best known as Micki. Micki was born near Howard, South Dakota on May 4, 1932 to Harvey and Mabel (Oliver) Marquart. Ed and Micki were married in 1953 and welcomed a son soon after, William (Bill). The family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Ed received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University. This led to a job with the DuPont Corporation in Circleville, Ohio, where the family formed several friendships lasting for many years. They subsequently joined the rest of the Eaton family in Los Alamos, New Mexico and Ed was hired as a Chemist for Los Alamos National Laboratory. Bill attended school there and Micki worked part-time at a local deli. They lived and worked in Los Alamos for several years. When Ed retired, they bought ten acres just outside the city limits of Roswell, New Mexico where the family was able to enjoy a warmer climate and the wide-open space and peace provided by living in the country.

Ed pursued many hobbies, but his favorite was collecting old cars. He and Bill shared this love of cars and enjoyed participating with the Old Car Club in Roswell, showing several of their favorites in parades and car shows. During this time Micki enjoyed collecting antique dishes and glassware and attending the car shows. She also did embroidery work and crocheted many afghans. Ed had played cornet in his high school band and renewed his love of band music by playing for several years with the Roswell Community Band. Ed was a gentle, kind, generous, and good-natured man with a warm and humorous spirit. Micki shared that love of humor, especially with her close family, and she and her sisters used to love to laugh together. The Eatons also provided a loving home to nearly a dozen dogs over the years, making them a cherished part of their family. Ed and Micki were blessed with a marriage of over 67 years.

Micki was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bill, Don and Bernard, and four sisters, Delores Endres, Darlene Kruger, June Breiner and Gladys "Gusi" Coil, in addition to her beloved son, Bill. Micki is survived by her sister, Alice Wood of Roswell NM, and a brother, David Marquart, of Garretson SD, and several other family members.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marlyne Morgan, and his beloved son, Bill. He is survived by his sister, Pat Turner (Ron), and several other family members.

Ed and Micki were blessed with wonderful care over the past few years by family and friends. This allowed them to continue enjoying their home in Roswell. Also providing comfort and compassion most recently were nurses and staff from Kindred Hospice, Visiting Angels, Nuclear Care Partners, Covenant Hospital (Lubbock TX), Crown Point Rehabilitation (Lubbock TX). The family is grateful for all of the kind thoughts and wonderful memories that Ed and Micki's friends and loved ones have shared during our time of loss.
