Edward Navarrette

October 13, 1937 — November 30, 2020

Roswell

Our Pop, Edward Saiz Navarrette, 83 of Roswell, NM went to Heaven on November 30, 2020 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Edward was born on October 13, 1937 to Prajedes and Panfila Navarrette.  Edward was born and grew up in Artesia NM, where one of his first jobs was working for Western Union delivering telegrams.  For many years, Edward surveyed much land and built many roads while he worked for Armstrong & Armstrong and the New Mexico State Highway Department where he retired from.

In 1954, Edward became a member of the United States Army National Guard where was Honorably Discharged in 1976 as a Sgt to the HHB 1st BN 200th ADA in Roswell, NM.

He is survived by his children, Elida Navarrette (Justin Greene), Evelyn Fuentes (Antonio Salinas), E. Jean Navarrette (Bobbi Davies) and Edward R. Navarrette (Shelby Navarrette).  He is also survived by his grandchildren Gaby Arroyo, Jessica Archibeque, Jennifer Romero, Chassity Vasquez, Justin Evans, Shaylee Navarrette, Edward Ryan Navarrette, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Edward is also survived by his sisters Maria Pratt, Dominga Gomez, Virginia Barbier and brothers Samuel and Robert Navarrette. Also, Edward’s cherished pets, Roxy and MeMe. Edward is also survived by his ex-wife, Eva Navarrette.

Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Prajedes and Panfila Navarrette, brothers and sisters Raymond Navarrette, Bernarda McDill, Santiago (Jim) Navarrette and Mercy Hernandez and by his granddaughters Angel Marie Mobbley and Erica Marie Navarrette.

Our Dad was sincerely loved and respected by his many friends, co-workers and family. Our Dad would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He coached his son’s baseball teams and later Erica’s t-ball team.  He supported his children in all of their school and sports activities (pop flies at the softball fields, freezing at track meets and snowball fights at the Wool Bowl) and the other aspects of their lives.  Our Dad enjoyed driving and exploring the many roads all around his district while working for the Highway Department and making numerous friends along the way. He loved playing pranks on his co-workers, pitching horseshoes and a good game of pool. Our Dad was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Choir Member where he loved to sing and put himself in charge of the Choir set-up.

The Navarrette family are extremely grateful and would like to deeply thank all of the wonderful staff at The Village at Northrise Homestead Program in Las Cruces, NM who loved and took such good care of our Dad in the final years of his life.

A viewing for Edward will be held from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM, Friday, December 11, 2020 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, Roswell, NM.  A celebration of our Dad’s life will be held at a later date.
