Dennis Eugene Ware

September 6, 1945 — June 13, 2024

Dennis Ware passed peacefully in his sleep on June 13, 2024. Dennis was born September 6,1945, to Mervin “Ping” and Patricia Toothman Ware. On June 7, 1968, Dennis married the love of his life Barbara Elaine Mitchell and they happily celebrated 56 years of marriage on the 7th of this month.

He spent his childhood moving about as a Navy dependent. Dennis became the fourth generation in his family to serve in the US Navy, for 12 years (including 10 years during the Vietnam Conflict) reaching the rank of Electronics Warfare Chief Pety officer (EWC). After his naval career he went to work as the lead electronics technician on the Reagan era “ Star Wars Missile Defense system” at Sandia Labs in Albuquerque, NM for 5 years. In 1980 he went on to work for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an electronics technician installing and maintaining crucial flight control equipment at various airports. He retired on December 31, 2013, after 33 years of service to continue his love of fly fishing, kites and hunting. All of these he had enjoyed with his family as his sons grew up. Making and flying kites was his favorite activity as his arthritis made it impossible to hunt or go fishing. He enjoyed not only the activity of flying kites but also the friends he made at kite festivals. He earned the nickname “Kite Doctor” because he always walked the field at the festivals fixing the kids’ kites so they could enjoy their day flying because he believed everyone deserved to fly a kite.

Dennis is survived by his wife Barbara, sons David and wife Shari, son Michael; adopted daughter Amanda. Dennis had great pride, joy and love for his granddaughters Brianna, Barbara, Katy, and Lexi as well as great grandchildren Jasper and Octavia. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Bert and Scott along with sister Barbara Jean, and Barbara’s brothers Chase Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell and Robert Tyndall, along with many loved nephews and nieces.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Mervin Ray and Patricia Ann Ware, Barbara’s parents Joseph Aldon and Verily Beatrice Reeves Mitchell, sister Diane and brother Wesley.

The Ware family would like to thank everyone for your prayers and support during Dennis’ illness, the awesome staff of the Palliative floor of the Covenant Hospital, Lubbock Texas, and Roswell Interim Healthcare Hospice nurses, who so lovingly made it possible to allow Dennis the comfort and easement of pain while being at home as he desired his last days.
