Dean Day

Dean Day was taken home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at age 75 in Tijuana, Mexico. She had been with her husband Carl who was receiving cancer treatments there.

A viewing for Dean will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at LaGrone Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 20, 2017. A funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Compass Church, 1512 S. Main, burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.


Dean was born in Portales, NM on March 30, 1942 to Jimmy D. Hays and Malena Lavenia Evans Hayes. She was raised in Dora, NM until her family moved to a ranch near Florence, CO. There she attended High school Graduating in 1961.

She then attended Abilene Christian College for two years then she married Carl on February 28, 1964. They moved to Roswell, NM where they raised their three daughters. The girls all graduated from Goddard High School. They all received their bachelor's degrees from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.
Dean worked part time as a decorator at Colony House Furniture while Cristy was finishing high school. She became a realtor and served her clients for over 28 years. She was chosen Realtor of the Year in 2011. Dean had a full and rewarding career as a realtor serving many clients for 28 years. She developed great relationships with her fellow realtors and members of the Roswell community. Dean retired from real estate when Carl was diagnosed with cancer in February of this year.

Dean was devoted to her family and her faith family. She was a member of Roswell Story League where she shared so many stories with some of her cherished friends. She was also a member of Morning Garden Club where she enjoyed many friends and wonderful experiences of participating with God in the splendor of His creation. She also enjoyed her relationships with her sisters of PEO Chapter Z.

Dean's faith in God was always her guide as she met the many challenges of her career and her life. She put her whole heart into serving her God, her family, and everyone else in her life. She was an amazing wife, mother and De De to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie D. Hays, Malena Levena Hays and her sister Margie Swift.

Dean's memory will be cherished by her husband, Carl Day of 53 years; daughters, Misty Reese of Austin, TX; Stefanie Sheppard (Jim) of Canyon Lake, TX; Cristy Nash (Brannon) of Midland, TX; and her sister, Sue McNeil of Sequim, Washington. A blessing to her were her grandchildren, Walker Reese, Maddie Reese, Sam Sheppard, Dylan Sheppard, Chase Nash and Cooper Nash.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Sheppard, Brannon Nash, Tim Reese, Dylan Sheppard, Sam Sheppard, Chase Nash, and Walker Reese.
