Roswell

David Raye Scott, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on October 28, 2023.

David entered this world on July 7, 1935 in Emory, Texas. He was born to Jack Scott and Gladys Garrett-Scott. Growing up as a young boy, David split his time living between El Paso, Texas and Tucumcari, NM. He attended Tucumcari High School briefly as a teenager. David left Tucumcari High School as a sophomore to hit the rodeo circuit and sow some oats. It was while he lived in Tucumcari, NM that he met Shirley McAda in the 8th grade. David served in the Navy from 1952-1956 where he received several medals as well as a medal for serving in the Korean War. After a brief visit home to Tucumcari, David asked Shirley to marry him and they were married on May 29, 1955. After his time in the Navy, David attended Eastern New Mexico University - Portales, NM. In 1961 he received a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Economics. In 1965 he received a Master of Business Administration. David was the Business Manager for twenty-five years at ENMU-Portales and Roswell, NM campuses before retiring in 1985. After retiring, David re-entered the workforce as Comptroller at New Mexico Military Institute. After serving a brief time with Chaves County, he served as Business Manager for Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Veitch & Dr. Lehman, Business Manager for La Casa de Buena Salud before retiring for a second time. Those who knew David, knew that he could not sit still, as he then took a position at Bush TV & Appliance as his last position before officially slowing down. David is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Shirley, and his mother and father.

David is survived by his sister Sandy Feinberg (Robert) of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Kelli Goodpasture of Roswell, New Mexico, Kerri Bell (Buck) of Orange Park, Florida, Kaye Whitefoot (Kyle) of Roswell, New Mexico; granddaughters Brianne Arias (Zane) of Klackamas, Oregon, Kayla Steed (Curtis) of Middleburg, Florida, Abigail Salyer (Brandon) of Johnson City, Tennessee; great grandchildren, David, Mackenzie, Rhett, Garrett and Elijah; nephews Scott McAda (Belinda) of Florida, Britton McAda of Texas, Ray Feinberg of Texas; nieces Kristi Sitton of Oklahoma, Diana Galletta of Washington State, Melani Feinberg of Oklahoma.

David was ornery and some say eternally grouchy. What you saw was what you got. He was a good friend at all times, a force to be reckoned with. He will be deeply missed by so many.
