Colonel Anderson

After a long and dedicated life, Colonel James Marshall Anderson, (known as Jim, Andy, Marsh, or GDad to his family and friends) passed away peacefully at Casa Maria on Thursday, August 13 at the age of 91.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Lester and Kathryn Matter Anderson on January 26, 1924. He was the middle child, with an older sister Jane, and a younger sister, Carol (who was born on his thirteenth birthday).
His work ethic began at an early age. Jim entered the work force riding a bicycle to deliver papers in his hometown, Harrisburg, PA. During high school, he worked as a soda jerk, but then entered the Army Air Forces during his senior year in high school and learned to fly bi-wing planes. He was a member of the Air Force 509th Composite Group that dropped the atomic bombs in Japan, while flying the B-29, "Up an' Atom". He also flew and trained pilots on the T-39 jet at SAC Headquarters and flew the giant C-130 Hercules refuelers. He ended his 30 year career at Warren AF base as a Minute Man missile commander.
He married Maurine Everman in 1948 while he was stationed at Walker Air Force Base. They moved around the country together dancing to Glenn Miller as he completed various Air Force assignments. Their daughter Vicki was born in Roswell.
In his retirement years, he moved back to Roswell, living at South Spring Acres, and continued to enjoy family time with his expanding family. He gained a son, Jerry Hobson, and two grandchildren: Levi and Whitney Hobson. He fished, hunted, fixed cars as well as anything with a motor, gardened, played tennis, and enjoyed his pets. He was always ready to assist people, saying, "Let me know if there is anything I can do to help." He joked about his "Anderson Consulting Service", since people often asked for his counsel. He also found time to go to his grandkids' sporting events and dance recitals, too.
In the last few years, he lived at Casa Maria where he continued to distribute advice, and tootsie rolls, to visitors. He called and spoke with his loved ones daily, and was feisty and caring till the end.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Kathryn Anderson, his sister Mary Jane Anderson, his wife of 42 years, Maurine Everman Anderson, his parents-in-law Lynn and Elizabeth Everman, brother-in-law Ralph Quint, and nephew Ronald Quint.
Those left to enjoy his memories are his sister Carol Anderson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; his daughter Vicki Hobson and son-in-law Jerry of Roswell, grandchildren Levi Hobson of Roswell, and Whitney Hobson of Ruidoso, sister-in-law Mary Lou Quint of Hill City, Kansas, and niece Shirley Wilson of Florida. He also left behind many caring friends and care-givers at Casa Maria, especially his nurse Majo, who kept him going for so long.
