Caroline Lovelace

August 4, 1937 — February 8, 2021

Roswell

Caroline Lovelace, 83, went to be with Jesus on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Roswell, NM after a life filled with helping others.

Caroline was born in Stamford, Texas to Patsy and Ben Cole on August 4, 1937. Caroline attended Stamford High School where she graduated as valedictorian in 1955 with a grade average of 97.36! She then attended University of North Texas in Denton, Texas where she earned a degree in Math Education in 1958. She married Allen J. Lovelace in 1958 and they moved to Roswell for Allen to teach at NMMI. They initially planned to stay in Roswell a few years-and they ended up staying over 60 years! They welcomed many visitors to their home over those years.

She taught middle school math when she first arrived in Roswell. Caroline also taught preschool and had many piano students over the years. She was very active at First United Methodist Church leading VBS, singing in the choir, teaching children's Sunday school classes and later adult classes as well. Allen and Caroline attended many Lay Witness Missions. Caroline later got involved with the high school youth, leading them in MYF. She wrote Bible studies for groups and headed the Angel Tree Christmas project for several years.

Caroline was very active in her children's lives attending many piano recitals, Little League games, and choir performances, among other things. Her family and friends couldn't wait for the holidays for her special sweet rolls. There was always her chocolate cake or meringue pie waiting for you when you arrived from out of town. She made her own unique enchiladas. She was also quite a seamstress designing her own style of walker pocket and doll clothes. Her needlework was beautiful.

Caroline used her math education again teaching high school math at NMMI after her kids were up in school. She touched the lives of many high school students with not only math, but also Jesus' love.

Over the years she was involved in many Bible studies and prayer groups. She truly felt prayer and faith in Jesus was the way to look for answers to life's problems. She lived her life to show Jesus' love and prayed with many people.

Caroline was preceded in death by her sister Patricia (Peachy) Cole, Brother Benjamin Harrison Cole, and her beloved husband, Allen J. Lovelace. She is survived by her daughter, Patty, and son, Ben, and his wife, Cindy. She dearly cherished her grandchildren John Lovelace, Carrie Dillard, and Josh English; and took them to many movies, on trips, and sewed many costumes for them. She also leaves many nieces and nephews in Texas.
