Carole Joan Voss
April 18, 1937 – December 5, 2025
Carole Joan Voss, born April 18, 1937, in Englewood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 88. Carole grew up as the second of five children, remembered for her humor, warmth and the “mischief in her eyes”.
She married her husband, Owen, in 1957 and together they raised three children. While raising the family, Carole and Owen lived in Illinois and Arizona. Later they would move to New Mexico. She embraced each new place with enthusiasm and developed new interests along the way. While living in Cave Creek, AZ she helped run the family’s Hi-Way Variety and Hardware Store. She also enjoyed volunteering at her children’s school, and immersing herself in the arts – basket weaving, knitting and the local Christmas Pageant. She also developed a deep love for the history of the southwest, participating in local archeological digs where her careful hands brought pieces of history to light.
When Carole and Owen moved to Dexter, New Mexico, her service to others continued through her work with the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center Auxiliary, twice serving as President. After Owen’s passing, she moved to Colorado Springs where she found enjoyment in family and church fellowship. She was always an excellent baker of Dutch treats, and her family hopes to continue in the tradition of Banket at Christmastime! In her last years, she faced the challenges of a slow growing brain tumor. Even so, she remained engaged – participating in Bible Study, weekly outings and Bingo at Melody Living – Assisted Living.
Carole is survived by two sisters, her three children, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Owen, her parents, two siblings and two great-grandchildren.
Carole’s life was shaped by her love for the Lord, her family and others. Her hands crafted beauty and her joyful spirit left an imprint on every community she touched. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Carole will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Owen in Roswell, New Mexico.
