Byrda Snodgrass

SNODGRASS, BYRDA MENOUD - Byrda was born October 14, 1917 in Marietta, Oklahoma to Milton A. and Mary Ellie Dorman. Both preceded her in death. She attended and graduated from Hagerman High School in 1935. She was married to Alfred D. (Jack) Menoud on November 20, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1988. She married Cecil Snodgrass on April 3, 1991. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Byrda was always interested in children and youth. She began teaching Sunday School in her teens. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader and a Rainbow Mother Advisor. She served as a Counselor for the Junior High at Methodist Church Camp for several years.

She has been a life-long member of the Methodist Church. She served on the Church board. She became a member of the Methodist Women's group at the age of 18. She held offices in the local, district and conference group.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Harmony Chapter #17 and Roswell Chapter #10 and an Honorary Member of Turquoise Chapter #71. She was a member of several Women's organizations during her life.

She was preceded in death by four sisters: Ruth Reese, Velva Ford, Zelma Key and Callie Chrisman and four brothers: Chester, Calvin, Pete and Howard and her infant son, Chester Donald Menoud.

Byrda is survived by her daughter Gloria Graham, a grandson, Donald Sims and his wife Marta and a granddaughter, Lori Brown, one great grand-daughter, Lesley Brown, two great grandsons, Michael and Adam and a great, great granddaughter, Sophie Brown. She has one step daughter, Sharon Richardson and husband, Bob.

Byrda will lie in state for viewing at LaGrone Funeral Chapel Saturday, September 3, 2016, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 4, 2016, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Monday, September 5, 2016, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Roswell, NM. Followed by a Graveside Service at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Hagerman Cemetery in Hagerman, NM.

Pallbearers: Danny Key, Arnold Dorman, Leonard Dorman, Lloyd Chrisman, Donald R. Sims and Mark Citty. Honorary Pallbearers: Adam, Michael, Jimmy Dorman and Jessie Price.
