Barbara Thomson, 81, of Roswell passed away in her sleep on July 7, 2025, after a long battle with ongoing health issues. She was born on July 19, 1943, in El Paso, Texas to William & Kathleen Owen. She grew up and graduated high school in Odessa, Texas. After graduation, she attended Texas Tech University and received her bachelor’s degree in Zoology in 1965. Shortly thereafter, she met and married her husband Bob, and they moved to Prince Albert Saskatchewan in Canada where they resided for 3 years. After moving back to the states, she resided in Midland, Texas; Lawton, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City; St. Louis, Missouri; and finally, Roswell, New Mexico. During her career, she worked in different industries. She taught at a girl’s school in Canada, sold curtains in Oklahoma City and at one point was a social worker helping inner city residents of St. Louis. Her most rewarding position was being the Director of Choices Center for Independent Living here in Roswell. She advocated tirelessly for people living with disabilities to get the help and services they needed. She had also been on the Polycystic Kidney Foundation Board and involved in various clubs and organizations in Roswell. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Barbara loved collecting antique dolls, gardening, reading, painting & drawing, volunteering and searching for treasures at garage sales. She also had a huge soft spot for all animals and saved and found homes (usually hers) for many stray cats & dogs.

She cherished and loved her family and friends dearly. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, A. Robert “Bob” Thomson, son Kyle Thomson and his wife Heidee of Orlando Florida, daughter Leslie Luginbill and her husband Eric of Roswell New Mexico, four grandchildren and numerous cousins and other extended family. She is preceded in death by her son Kevin Thomson, her parents and her sister Judy Bergsma. Please join us in celebrating her life.
