Anna Mae Mendoza

    Anna Mae Mendoza went home to be with Jesus at the age of 92 on May 15, 2024. She passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, who adored her. Anna Mae was born in Picacho, New Mexico, to Harry James Sutherland and Pilar Gallegos on May 15, 1932.

    She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 23 years, Dennis Mendoza, both her parents, and her siblings: Joe Sutherland, Walter Sutherland, Emilia Torrez, Willie Sutherland, Cerilia Campos, George Gallegos, and her son-in-law's, Bill Keck and Charles Reading. She is survived by her brother, Refugio “Cuco” Gallegos, and her daughters: Christine Chaves (Bobby), Irene Keck, Betty Trujillo, and Laurie Burrow (Paul). Surviving grandchildren are Greg Carrasco (Pebbles), Jody Carrasco (Teresa), Angela de León (Fabian), Gary Powell (Heather), Carrie Jones (Daniel), Callie Burrow (Jesús), Kyle Burrow, Lindy Ritenour (Sean), Justin Keck (Jennifer), and Staci Carrasco. Great-grandchildren include Samantha Bruns (Tucker), Hayden Carrasco, Adreyan de León, Charlee de León, Joseph Carrasco III (McKenzie), Leah Carrasco, Sista Powell, Gary Powell, Victoria Powell (Emilee), Ryan Lynn Powell, Leigh Ann Powell, Daxon Jones, Ryker Jones, Liam Cain, Ayden Cain, Jocelyn Ritenour, August Keck, Vivian Vidal, and one great-great-grandchild on the way, Heath Bruns. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

    Anna Mae was the head cook at Furr’s Cafeteria in Roswell for 27 years. She loved cooking for her family, hosting family gatherings at her home, and spending time with her friends, Red Hat friends, and neighbors. Her world revolved around her children and grandchildren. Her favorite things were dancing, going to parades, painting ceramics, decorating her home for all occasions, and watching rodeos. Anna Mae was creative, and her family will always remember the stories she recounted about the “old days.”

    There will be a viewing at LaGrone Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 20, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Anna Mae's Celebration of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, at 11:00 a.m. at LaGrone Funeral Chapel and will be officiated by Pastor Tim Arlet. Pallbearers are Greg Carrasco, Jody Carrasco, Fabian de León, Bobby Chaves, Gary Powell, and Paul Burrow. Honorary Pallbearers are Hayden Carrasco, Joseph Carrasco, Adreyan de León, Kyle Burrow, Gary Powell, Tucker Bruns, Daniel Jones, Jesús Rivas Guzman, Tony McIntire, and Matthew Shappard.
