Alan Paul Reed of Roswell passed away on June 8, 2026, after a long illness. Born in Buchanan, Michigan, on September 16, 1938, he was the second child of Paul and Dorothy Reed - a quiet, steady soul from the very beginning.

In 1948, the Reed family made Roswell their home, and it was here that Alan grew up, graduated from Roswell High School in 1957 and made lifelong friends. Soon after, he set out for California, where he began what would become a remarkable 70‑year career as an auto mechanic. Alan had a gift for understanding how things worked; engines, machines, anything with moving parts and he poured that talent into a lifetime of honest, hard work.

Alan returned to Roswell from California in the 1970's and joined his father in running Equipment Service, where the two worked side by side for many years. In 1987, Alan met and married Billie Polak, beginning a marriage some say, "was a match made in Heaven". They remained devotedly married until her passing in 2020.

While still in high school Alan discovered a passion for motorcycles and motorcycle racing. This lifelong interest in motorsports extended far beyond motorcycles to include various forms of racing including stock car racing. His lifelong dedication to racing continued well into his early 80s, when he was still actively participating in vintage flat track races in New Mexico.

Those left to cherish Alan's memory include his sister, Zelma Wilcox of Roswell; and his brothers, Britt Reed of Lubbock, Texas, and Vance Reed, whereabouts unknown. Alan was preceded in death by his brothers, Kurt, James ("Jimmy"), and Mark Reed.

Alan is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends as well as Billie's daughters and their grandchildren. He touched countless lives over the years, offering support, understanding, and guidance to those who faced the same challenges he once did. His generosity of spirit and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A celebration of Alan's life is planned for a later date. Those wishing to remember Alan are invited to donate to the charity of their choice in his memory.
